How Accuracy is Calculated

Points-based scoring system for prediction accuracy

🎯Points Award Rule

Each match is scored once, using the highest applicable rule:

  • 3 ptsActual score matches the model's rank 1st scoreline
  • 2 ptsActual score matches either the rank 2nd or rank 3rd scoreline
  • 1 ptNo exact match, but rank 1 scoreline predicts the correct outcome (home win, draw, or away win)
  • 0 ptsWrong outcome prediction

All scoring is judged on the 90-minute result only, excluding extra time and penalty shootouts.

📈Accuracy Calculation

Points Accuracy — weighted by scoring rule:

Points Accuracy = (Total Points Earned / Maximum Possible Points) × 100%

Since each match can earn a maximum of 3 points, the maximum possible points equals the number of completed matches multiplied by 3.

Example: If 10 matches are completed and the model earned 27 points total, the points accuracy would be 27 ÷ (10 × 3) = 27 ÷ 30 = 90%.

Outcome Accuracy — did the rank-1 scoreline pick the right outcome?

Outcome Accuracy = (Correct Outcomes / Total Matches) × 100%

A match counts as a correct outcome when the home/draw/away result implied by the model's rank-1 scoreline matches the actual home/draw/away result (the 1-point rule above).

Example: If the model picks a rank-1 scoreline of 2-1 (home win) and the actual result is 3-0 (home win), that counts as a correct outcome — regardless of whether the exact scoreline matched.
